Join Hands with 50 Countries to Celebrate Peace and Diversity on International Children’s Day 2018
June 1, 2018 – Neo Immersion Montessori School celebrated International Children’s Day at first Annual Summer Picnic. With tight-knit community engagement, Executive Director, Elina Chen, shared with parents and students what it means to learn about peace and culture, which is this year’s theme. The inspiration behind the theme transcended from the importance of acknowledging children from all diverse backgrounds and acquiring valuable knowledge, skills, attitudes, and commitment to contribute to real, lasting peace in the world seen in UNESCO’s Manifesto 2000 – respect all life, reject violence, share with others, listen to understand, preserve the planet, and rediscover solidarity.
Many of these beliefs exist within the Neo Immersion Montessori School's philosophy, where we encourage all of our students to become global contributors in their own creative ways during challenging times today. Our NIMS Teachers from Lucy Finn (Kids Yoga), to Ms. Cherry Non-Nazal (Head Teacher), to Ms. Marianna Chan (Guest Teacher), to Ms. Eileen Huang (Bilingual Lead), to Yukari Takata Schneider (special guest, CEO/ Co-Founder and Momtrepreneur of Roovillage), and Oliver Chin (special guest, publisher of the original The Octonauts and Justin Time adaptations) used their expertise, imagination and foresight to ensuring culture of peace understood by students in the classroom.

About Our Special Guests
Yukari Takata Schneider, PhD, MPH
Yukari is the CEO/ Co-Founder and Momtrepreneur of Roovillage [an AirBNB-like platform for booking drop-in daycare for parents who may need childcare during upcoming NIMS holidays or school breaks]. She is passionate about making childcare accessible to all families. Previously, she was a market research manager for a health IT company, and spent her career promoting topics from child traffic safety to bullying prevention. She has a PhD in Mass Media and a Masters in Public Health. Her mission is to connect families to information to help improve quality of life. Yukari is also a mother of two little boys, and loves showing them the wonders of this world and raising them to leave it better than they found it. We were thrilled to have her do an interactive demo with students and parents on traffic safety for young preschoolers.
Oliver Chin
Author and story-teller, Oliver Chin shared his new children’s picture bilingual (English and Chinese-Mandarin) books The Discovery of Ramen and The Year of the Dog from the popular annual series Tales from the Chinese Zodiac. The original publisher of The Octonauts books and official Justin Time adaptations, Oliver inspired the students to read, draw, and create how the world can be in their eyes.
